Things to Keep in Mind When Training Your Falcon

When it comes to falconry, training a bird-of-prey could be a short process. A common Harris Hawk could be trained well to fly freely and train it to return back to you within a short period of 3 weeks, and sometimes even less.

Falconry Glove

Here are some essential that must be kept in mind when training your bird:

It is important to keep in mind that birds-of-prey return to the falconer not for affection, but for food only.

Weight Control. Your hawk needs to be kept somewhat hungry before you let it fly away, as the hawks come back to their falconers only for the food. At the very start of training sessions, the bird-of-prey is weighed, and then it is weighed each and every following day. Weight of your hawk needs to be reduced a little bit at a time, suitable not more than 10% at the beginning. It is important to adjust the flying weight when it is needed, as its not any fixed figure and depends on the muscle mass, manning level, and fitness of the hawk.
