My beliefs

Let me start by introducing myself.

My name is Jeremiah Robison and I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. From a very early age I was taught that there is a God and that He is our Heavenly Father. I remember wondering about this as a child, and even daydreaming about what it would be like if nothing existed. This thought caused my mind to race and even panic at times. I knew deep down inside that we were on this earth for a reason, and that all of this couldn’t be a result of chance. Someone or something had to have created us, and I’ll be forever grateful to my parents for teaching me that this divine creator wasn’t a thing, but rather the Father of our spirits. Having this foundation and understanding of the character of God was a crucial starting point for my faith.

I was also taught from a young age about something called “The Plan of Happiness” which explains WHY we are here on earth. At first I thought of the purpose of life as somewhat of a game (something like “how to make it back to God some day”), but I’ve since come to believe that it’s so much more than that. We are here to progress, to stumble, and to even fail at times. We are here to learn and grow by faith. True happiness can’t just be given to us in an instant. Our Heavenly Father realized we needed to develop this joy from within, just as a seed needs to develop from within the soil to become a tree.

So what is the way to accomplish this? How do we achieve this happiness according to our Father’s plan? Are we left in the dark to feel this out on our own? These are questions which lead to my next belief.

I believe with my whole soul that the way to true and lasting happiness is through Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He is the light of the world. A light which chases away darkness and infuses us with love the moment we turn to it. He is also called Emmanuel, meaning “God with us”. As we seek this light, by faith, our understanding will be illuminated. Our faith will become stronger, and we will slowly but surely grow from within to become like our Heavenly Father.

Although I enjoy seeking knowledge and further understanding of spiritual things, I love to refer back to my basic and simple foundation — my faith in Jesus Christ. If I were to pick a favorite scripture it would be verse 24 from section 50 of the Doctrine and Covenants:
