Why Your Puppy is Not Eating

When your puppy is not eating, it’s normal to worry. There are a number of reasons why your puppy is not hungry. Acting calmly and quickly could be the key to keeping your pet healthy.

Reasons your puppy is not eating could be:

Puppies can become ill very quickly. It’s important to identify why your puppy isn’t hungry as soon as you can and seek professional help from your veterinarian if you’re having trouble.

In this article, I will discuss the possible reasons your new friend is not eating. Let’s go through these possibilities.

When a puppy is nauseous, they exhibit drooling, gagging, and abdominal contractions.

If you notice your dog doing these things. It could mean your puppy is ill, or more commonly, she ate something she wasn’t supposed to. Be sure to watch for vomiting and/or foreign objects in the stool.

If this lasts more than 12–24 hours, call your vet for advice. If your puppy is having symptoms such as lethargy, it could quickly become a medical emergency.

Nausea leading into vomiting or diarrhea can be concerning for pet owners.

If your puppy is experiencing these symptoms, this is a good indication that something is wrong.

With puppies, it’s best to act quickly. Call the vet immediately if your dog has experienced 2 or more bouts of vomiting or diarrhea, isn’t urinating/defecating, or becomes lethargic.

Just like humans, dogs experiencing tooth pain or mouth pain, will naturally be averse to eating.
