3 Small Changes That Will Make a Big Difference

Choices count. Decisions made today could give you better health and energy tomorrow. Making the right choices over time will greatly improve the odds to live a long and healthy life. But making better choices takes patience and hard work.

Having a healthy and nutritious breakfast with adequate Proteins, Vitamins and Minerals will not only help you be more active the entire day but also increase your odds to eat right throughout the day. Adding 60 minutes of effective exercise complimenting the food that you eat makes way for a much better night’s sleep.

Every now and then you will come across some Fad Diets and get confused. You are not alone. In a survey it was found that 1 in every 4 people find it easier to figure out their taxes than to know how to eat right.

Being “on diet” has one problem it is a temporary effort and almost every time has a endpoint. Any diet that asks you to do just 1 thing for weeks together, give it a thought and think about the ramifications. Healthy food choices should be a way of life rather than being on one diet or the other.

Contrary to popular belief calories are not created equal. The quality of what you eat matters far more than the overall quantity. To think that it’s okay to eat everything in moderation is just an excuse to eat whatever you want.

Many diets have some helpful elements but only if they are part of a more holistic approach to eating. Eating well does not need to be difficult or complicated. You can very well set your eye on foods that will give you more energy in the day and help you maintain good health in long term. You will realize over time that making a commitment to eating the correct food is much easier than jumping from one diet to another.

Our bodies are designed to move. 30 min of exercise daily or work outs 3 times a week is not enough. Being active through out the day is more important.

As I kid I remember I used to be constantly on the move doing various activities. Sitting in one place was something that I was not aware of. My father or his father spent a lot of time moving around on foot or farming or days were spent in doing a lot of physical labor.

But as I grew up and started working most of my time was spent sitting in a place working on a desk. On an average I spent 9–10 hours siting down. If you take a typical day you get up in the morning clean up and you will sit down for a cup of tea and newspaper. A little movement to get ready to go to office and than 20–30 min sitting in your car. Once you reach the office the next 7–8 hours will be spent sitting in a place barring a few washroom/lunch/ pantry breaks. You drive home and than a couple of hours spent watching TV and a sit down dinner. On average I observed that I was moving less than 20,00 steps on a daily basis.

Get active, set a goal to move minimum 10,000 steps daily. It wont happen overnight. It will take effort and planning to get to that no. In today’s world of gadgets you will find all the relevant tools to guide / motivate and help you to achieve your goal. Take a break from your work every 20 min and walk around. Change some of the tasks which otherwise make you sit at a place. For example keep the food in the kitchen and walk from the table to fill your plate. Not only will you move but also eat less.

One hour less sleep does not mean extra work achievement or enjoyment. Sleeping less will actually affect your well-being, productivity, health and ability to think. We have all seen people around us boasting about pulling a whole nighter to get work done.

One of the studies showed that elite performers will achieve greatness if they practices a certain task for 10,000 hours. Question that was raised was how would it be done considering everyone has 24 hours in a day. The answer was such elite personalities slept on an average 8 to 8.5 hours daily and took regular breaks from there sessions every 90 min.

Sleeping adequate and taking regular intervals is the key. Lack of sleep will slow you down. Working on a task for too long will decrease your ability to perform. Take regular breaks and work in bursts, sleep adequate and your performance will increase.

So there you go 3 small changes and they will do a world of good.

Eat Right, Move Regularly and Sleep Adequate that is the key to Good Health and Well Being.
