Mobile Phones to Boost Remote Working

With the world under lockdown for almost two months now, lots of companies have put in place work from home initiatives. One of the main obstacles that these employees face is the issue of not having proper network connectivity. Some companies have initiatives where the employees are given network-connected devices such as dongles which are topped up by the company. However, in cases where the employees do not have this facility, especially since the lockdown was imposed unexpectedly, the employees will have to use their own home broadband connections. There are two issues with this approach; the fact that the network connections might not be stable, and that they will have to pay for the connectivity from their pockets.

What I would like to suggest the major Network Providers is, to make a system which would enable the mobile phones to act as dongles.

What the Network Providers can do is create a portal, which enables the companies to login and create accounts for the companies. They can select broadband packages to suit their needs and the network providers can ensure stable high-speed connections. The companies can sign up with the network provider to grant network connectivity to the employees. The company will create an individual account for the employees and be able to generate a key for each, using which the employees can connect to the internet. This will be a private key for each employee.

On the employees’ end, there will be another application on their mobile phones, through which they can enter the company provided key, to gain access to the internet. They can use the mobile phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot with the company provided key, and their usage will be billed to the company.

In this case, the company will be billed for the web usage of the employees, when they have enabled internet access by entering the pin provided by the company. This enables the company to provide the employees with internet connectivity remotely. The companies would be charged as per the contracts they might have signed already with the existing Network Providers for the usage of its employees.

The main advantage of such a system is that there would not be any necessity for dongles in the future because simply each and everyone does have a smartphone now. Further, from the company’s perspective, it would be much easier to keep track of the users who are currently active and monitor their internet usage in real-time. In case an employee leaves the company, you can simply remove the employee from the account and add any new ones. Using such a system would enable the company to provide internet for the employees who want to get the service, in a fraction of a second.

This will be much beneficial for the Network Providers as well. As per the current situation if a system like this is developed there would be many companies who would definitely make use of the service and this could be a great chance for the Network Providers to make a buck out of it.

As per my views implementing such a system would ultimately stop the use of dongles in the companies since this method would be much faster, efficient and cost-effective.
