A Fresh Start

Do I write? Rarely. Do I like writing? Depends, sometimes it flows and I enjoy that, but when it doesn’t… I dislike it intensely! When my brain gets stuck I feel very mortal and I intensely dislike mortality.

So, why am I putting myself at risk of displeasure to write this article?Because I’m a warrior and I would like to end these mere mortal feelings once and for all.

For me, it’s all about that creative flow. When my brain is experiencing peak pleasure and my eyes are in a trance. It’s just coming to me. It wouldn’t be absurd to call it a prophetic experience, at least that’s what it feels like. This is one of the reasons I enjoy everything creative. (Even though I’m scared to start some processes due to fear of brain freeze, like writing) I enjoy and appreciate cooking, dance, interior design, art, writing, music, typography, graphic design, photography, fashion, business, and especially Torah! (Cheesy, but true.) Now that you know a bit of background I’ll tell you what’s happening.

I, Shmuel Hakohen Apel, am making a big career decision within the next few weeks. I broke down the decision into three steps.

These are the big questions. Right now I would like to discuss question #1. Do I want to work for someone else or do I want to work for myself. Well, the best way I know how to make decisions is with a list of pros and cons. So that is exactly what I did. Here are the pros and cons of working for someone else. (No need to say the other side.)

Well, I did it and it didn’t really help. There are compelling reasons for both sides of the argument. So, if you have any opinions I would love to hear about them in the comments below!

It is Friday afternoon and I’m in a bit of a rush to get to Ramat Bet Shemesh for Shabbos so I have decided to continue this blog next week! I will discuss the next two questions and why I am definitely not interested in cooking as a profession!
