The Twinkle of Your Eye

Every pair of eyes I have seen, I have been met with a twinkle, all ranging with wild emotions.

I held my nephew when he was a day old and saw a twinkle of life that was burning with a tiny ember. Now just a couple of years later, I see that ember slowly sparking into a flame.

I saw my great-grandmother’s eyes three days before she died. Bedridden the woman was along with a dozen IVs running through her. When she opened her eyes, the twinkle was there but more subtle than my nephews.

Rather than that burning flame I saw growing in my nephews, I see a calm fire slowly dying out, peacefully. That peaceful part is rather important, I think.

A new friend of mine is unrealistically optimistic, and yes, it can be rather annoying in the morning. But her eyes are hungry and twinkle with the desire to help people and make them feel loved.

My sister, who is the kindest soul I know, has a twinkle in her eyes that comes and goes due to her depression. Her eyes twinkle with gratitude and happiness now but show hints of seeing things now. Eyes should have to.

Twinkles to the eyes are essential because that twinkle shows the pain, the love, and the story of the soul. We only just get a glimpse of it when we meet each other’s eyes.
