A ray from The Lamp

It takes time and a load of hard work to achieve your dream, but in order to achieve the dream of millions, it is a task very few can perform. How do you plan to live your life? Born, grow up, study, party, get a job, get married, go old and die? Admit this or not, but each one of us has the same plans. Well, this isn’t the purpose we are sent here. God has created humans as ‘Ashraf-ul-Makhlooqat’ (superior to all his creations), do you know why? Do you ever wonder, what good have you done all day? No, you do not. But amongst us, there are some people who do. There has been a person, who knew why is he the Ashraf-ul-Makhlooqat. He does not care about his luxuries and comforts. All had in his mind was the purpose God sent him down there. He was a diamond in a coal mine. Abdul Sattar Eidhi, a diamond shiniest of all. A person who knew, an ordinary life, was not for him. A person who knew what an actual sacrifice is. A person who became the ‘angel of life’ for people who could not anticipate their future anymore. A person who may or may not be born once in a century. Not actually a person, but a priceless gem.

“No religion is higher than humanity’’, these emotive words were said by a person who dedicated his life serving suffering humanity, the ‘messiah’ of modern world, Abdul Sattar Edhi. From protecting desolate newborns to rescuing dying mankind, Edhi organized a range of institutions that helped people going through any kind of causality. Building the world’s largest network of ambulances, orphanages, rehab centers, shelter homes, and animal shelters, this richest poor man gave up the peace of his life to ease the pain of others. He was the sole founder of ‘Edhi Foundation’ which transformed the future of welfare in Pakistan. The sense of appreciation and gratitude urged Pakistanis to give donations to this foundation which paved its way to a great cause. Irrespective of ethnicity or religion, Abdul Sattar Edhi served all the sufferers showing up to his doors and proved to us that there is only one race and that is mankind. It’s hard to do a job without getting paid, but this man did all the work selflessly without expecting any financial gain. What could be better when your close relations stand with you while you end the agony of helpless souls. Bilquis Edhi, the wife of Edhi, stood by her husband and is known to be the most active philanthropist in Pakistan.

Eidhi’s policy of keep going in the right direction with your eyes on the low, no matter what society says, no matter how degrading it is and how they doubt your intention, inspired me. I joined a Rotary International and started doing community services. Met many people who were reluctant to help, many didn’t trust, many discouraged, but like Eidhi all I did was to let go and kept moving. A year went by, and just because of my motivation, I got awarded with the title of ‘Most Enthusiastic Member- Male of the year’.

About my #juststart project, I wanted to be the Editor at the Rotary International. The post required an article to be written which actually depicted your writing skills and your vocabulary. I was afraid to do so because of my low self-esteem, I thought I might not get selected. On the other hand, now was the time I throw these fears aside and move on. So, I wrote an article on Humanity and applied for the Editor’s post. This week I learned how to be fearless. Tried an attempt with my full potential, hoping for the best.
